The current salary for our U.S elected officials is $174,000. I am proposing we cut this in half to have a new salary of $87,000. It's no mystery that some members like Nancy Pelosi, Bernie Sanders, Ted Cruz and other officials have net worth's over the million dollar mark. This is no surprise since most of them utilize their platforms to their advantage to sell books that they have written for example. As elected officials they should focus on serving their constituents to the best of their abilities and not simply for the pay check. On top of their high income salaries, these officials get  great benefits and incentives to supplement them from paying out of pocket for many of things. The annual income wave in America is $31,133 according to the US census bureau. To wrap this up I simply want to state that I have no problem with any chasing to increase their income, however, they should utilize the free market and not a public office seat to do so. Asking Americans to keep paying more taxes while these officials have roughly five times the salary of the average American is wrong. $87,000 is a fair and livable salary plus they can keep using they're platforms to further promote their books or other methods to further capitalize their gains.
