To All,

RE: Current Events

During this historic time, the Humboldt Neighborhood Association (HNA) would like to create the space for our community to unite for justice through peace. Important voices, such as yours, need to be heard so we can move forward with change.

The HNA recognizes that we are all affected in some way by these events. It is important now, more than ever, to have a neighborhood dialogue as well as a national dialogue so all voices are heard with compassion and respect.

The neighborhood association hopes that these current events create unity and begin the process of eliminating systemic oppression and racism. As we continue to rally for change through this heartbreaking time, we believe our neighbors’ voices must be heard. The HNA stands with the grieving, hears the mourning, and is prepared to help support an equitable future for all.

We plan to use the collective strength of voices to demand change at a legislative level. This letter has been sent to Oregon Governor Kate Brown, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, Portland City Commissioners, and Oregon’s United States Congressional delegation to demand justice in this country for every voice that has been silenced through acts of police violence.

As the Humboldt Neighborhood, we would ask that you join us by signing this petition to show your support for justice and peace.

So many people have chosen to risk their lives during this global pandemic to speak with outrage about injustice. During these uncertain and turbulent times, respect and compassion does not go unnoticed. Maybe there’s a hero who lives deep within us all and if this is so, then now is the time to step forward and do that small kind act you know you could do for another to show kindness and respect. It is time, at long last, for the United States to extend to all of its citizens the hope and promise enshrined in its founding documents. One small step to change the world begins with you. Now.

We wish to thank you for this opportunity to share our hopes to create long overdue change for social justice deserved by all human beings.

In solidarity and peace,

The Humboldt Neighborhood Association
