The Senate has failed to override Trump’s veto of S.J. Res. 7 regarding the joint resolution to end unconstitutional U.S. participation in the Saudi war in Yemen.

S.J.Res.7: A joint resolution to direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities in the Republic of Yemen that have not been authorized by Congress.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders issued the following statement following a Senate vote on whether to override the president's veto of S.J. Res. 7:

"The bad news today: we were unable today to override Trump’s veto regarding U.S. intervention in this horrific war in Yemen. The good news: for the first time in 45 years, Congress used the War Powers Act to reassert its constitutional responsibility over the use of armed forces. Let me be clear: this is the beginning of a bipartisan process to take back our responsibility over these most important matters. My likeminded colleagues and I, in a bipartisan fashion, will utilize all of the legislative tools at our disposal—including further use of the War Powers Act."

There is still hope to end this horrendous war in Yemen - if Congress passes a concurrent resolution as opposed to a joint resolution, it won't be susceptible to President Trump's veto.

Concurrent resolutions, in contrast to joint resolutions, must be passed in the same form by both houses, but they do not require the signature of the president and do not have the force of law.

This issue is extremely urgent, as explained by Sen. Christopher S. Murphy, D-Conn. who stated that, “Today in Yemen, there are 250,000 Yemenis who are so malnourished and so sick that they are beyond saving, they will die ... Another 10 million are on the cusp of entering that category ... So long as the United States participates in the military campaign with the Saudis while not offering any meaningful pressure to get to that settlement, we are complicit in those deaths.”

Through signing this petition, you can help to pressure the U.S. Congress to pass a concurrent resolution in order to stop this unconstitutional participation in the Saudi war in Yemen, and help save an unfathomable amount of lives of Yemenis. Thank you.
