End financial barriers to higher education by supporting free public community college
Tuition is a massive burden on millions of students, and oftentimes it is a deciding factor in choosing or passing up a school. Because of this widespread issue, community colleges, which have about 12.4 million students in the US, should eliminate tuition so students can get that higher education opportunity, get a degree, and pursue a better career than one without such a chance. Especially considering the pandemic and its harmful economic effects on millions of households with kids, making community college free will be significantly utilized and surely not a waste of funds.
This goal would be accomplished by having Congress allocate funds, estimated to be $109 B, to states proportionate to the number of community colleges they have. With these funds to cover the lost revenue from eliminating tuition, states maintain their spending, Congress sacrifices a small portion of their massive budget, and numerous benefits of attending higher education will be gained by millions of students that no longer get discouraged by financial obstacles.
