Clean Beauty Lobby
The Clean Beauty Revolution demands clear, transparent labelling of beauty products in the USA. Consumers have the right to know which ingredients go into the product they consume so that they can make healthy and informed decisions. We are calling for stricter legislation to monitor the cosmetic industry to protect the health of customers and the integrity of products. Too many products are labelled as organic, all natural or green with little or no evidence to back up the claim.
We are calling for an end to ambiguous labelling. For instance, the word 'natural' has no legal definition and even the term 'organic' can be misleading, causing confusion or misinformation to consumers.
In Europe, over 1,300 ingredients used in cosmetics have been banned by the European Union, while in the United States, the Federal Drug Administration has banned just 10 ingredients to date. The United States cosmetics industry has not seen regulation since the 1930's when rat poison was being used as an ingredient in mascara, causing women to go blind.
Clear, honest labelling is essential as 60% of what you put on your skin ends up in your body. The unsafe chemicals in cosmetics are compromising our health, and we believe it's time to make clean beauty a legal standard.
Specifically, we are asking law makers to make cosmetics safe by creating a Clean Beauty Standard that will protect consumers against harsh chemicals, beginning with required ingredient transparency. This means clear and accountable labelling of all cosmetic products.
Stand with us by signing this petition. With your support, we will work with members of Congress to structure a standard that will add safety to your personal care products. We will fight exclusively for solutions in line with our transparent, clean, cruelty-free values. Nobody should have to compromise their health for their beauty.
