Establish a Veterans Resource Center to help vets attending university

The Concordia Veterans Association (CVA) is a group of former and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces and includes veterans of other nations such as the United States. At the CVA we not only understand the challenges veterans face, we live them every day. One of the most effective ways of addressing these challenges is to provide a centre where veterans can support each other academically as well as seek help with pensions, claims, and other administrative issues.
As a group, veterans are six times more likely to commit suicide than the general student body, almost half suffer from some form of OSI, and over 80% never make it through their first year at university. In the United States, student veterans have mobilized into a massive movement, with Vet Centers at most university campuses. Where these centres exist and support is provided, 72% of veterans succeed in their academic careers, with 25% earning multiple ceritificates and degrees.
The impact of these centres is undeniable. It is time for Canadian universities to follow suit and support their veterans.
