Right Size the CMS Gymnasium

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

The approved design for the proposed Concord Middle School building includes a 7,000 sq. ft. gymnasium that results in less usable space than the current Sanborn and Peabody gymnasiums.  Concord is already at a significant deficit of gyms to population versus every other surrounding district (between 2X and 3X fewer gyms per capita based on ages 10-19), and given that this is the last school building to be constructed in town, we have to get it right.

Concord-Carlisle Youth Basketball is spearheading an effort to get the CMS Building Committee to commit to a larger gym space that meets the needs of the CMS athletic programs, CCYB, and the wider Concord community.  Based on our current efforts, and with the assistance of Concord residents, the CMS Building Committee request updated designs that offered an option for a 13,000 sq. ft. space.  This larger space would more adequately meet the needs of the community, and also offer opportunities to help pay for the space.  The new designs do not negatively impact educational space, and we believe the larger option is the best choice for the town in the long term.

We need your commitment to get behind our proposal for a larger space than the currently approved 7,000 sq. ft. gym.  Please sign our petition.  More details can be found on our web site at http:://ccybasketball.org.
