Provide ASL/Deaf Education in Schools

Provide ASL/Deaf Education in Schools
Why this petition matters

With over 10,000,000 people in the US alone who identify as culturally and physically Deaf, the lack of education is appalling
Currently the Concord Carlisle school district does not offer American Sign Language as a course. After struggling to learn ASL myself even before being diagnosed with auditory nerve damage, I realized just how inaccessible our Education system is.
Not only does learning ASL open doors for communication with Deaf/deaf and hard of hearing individuals but it opens doors for children and teens who struggle with auditory processing and/or learning spoken language.
The requirement of learning a foreign language is not accessible to those with learning disabilities, speech impairments, and many other conditions and preferences. Offering ASL as a course allows students to take a language that they can feel confident and passionate about while decreasing the stigma around deaf individuals, sign language, and the deaf community.
Together we can make the world more accessible, create new opportunities, and raise awareness, not only about accessibility within the Deaf World, but across the Globe.
