Concerned Citizens Against the Glenville Proposed Shooting Range

Residents of the Town of Glenville are concerned about the location of a proposed outdoor police shooting range. The Town, with startup funds from NY Senator Tedisco, is proposing the construction of an outdoor police shooting range on Barhydt Road, within a few hundred feet of neighboring properties, many with small children.
Most importantly, however, is the plan to build the range a few hundred feet from the critically protected Great Flats Aquifer that supplies high quality drinking water to over 150,000 residents in both Schenectady and Saratoga Counties.
A properly designed range, as recommended by the US military and NRA, will cost the town hundreds of thousands of dollars, something this project doesn’t have available.
The Town of Glenville needs to put this project on hold, until the time arrives that they can secure funding for a properly designed indoor shooting range in a better location, a much safer, quieter, and ultimately profitable endeavor. Municipalities from across the Capital District and beyond could then pay to use this indoor range, and indoor ranges are overall much safer to use and operate.
By signing this petition, you’re letting the town of Glenville and Senator Tedisco know that you are against the location of this proposed range, and you feel that all residents, and police officers, deserve better.
