PETITION OF STUDENTS CALLING FOR A CHANGE OF PROFESSOR IN COMPUTER NETWORKING COURSE
The socioeconomic impacts brought by the covid-19 pandemic has affected almost every Filipino family specially the low and middle-income families. Despite the crisis, the students are trying their best to be compliant and be respectful of each other’s situation.
Just a few days ago, emergency maintenance activities were done on international cable system of a few internet service provider in our country seeing slow to no internet connection from September 25 to September 30. During our lecture class on Computer Networking last September 30, Wednesday at 5pm, a few of our classmates are still having internet connection problems and we were welcomed by a surprise preliminary exam. Everyone in the class were expecting for an activity or a homework as the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs released an advisory stating that all faculty members of the undergraduate and graduate programs are advised to provide assignment and/or homework activities during the said period. Furthermore, some of our classmates are not well equipped with the gadgets and technology needed and not everyone in the class have a postpaid connectivity so in every laboratory subject, they find ways to prepare for the things needed for the completion of requirements. Hence, an unstable internet connection will not guarantee the attendance of a student in the class and it is not the right time for an unannounced exam to happen considering the situation.
Even before this encounter, we also have other concerns regarding the outlook of our professor during our class. He is not considerate enough with our classmates who are unequipped with laptop and stable internet connection. He throws us with an argument that we are to find ways as it is not his dilemma. It also happened during our first meeting where he required us to look and buy individually for materials in the making of a LAN cable, which amounts to almost a thousand peso or less. Despite the crisis and other personal matter we are facing, our class is trying their best to help one another in these trying times so that no one will be left behind. However, how are we supposed to face all the difficulties as a student when you are faced with an inconsiderate professor, leaving you unheard of your situation and sentiments? Albeit he gave us a chance to move the exam to our next meeting after a quite long discussion and explanation, we worry that these encounters would happen again which we believe is unfair and needs attention. For the reasons stated herein, the student petitioners are strongly appealing for a change of professor for the Computer Networking Course of Class IT-NS3A. Thank you for your consideration and attention to this matter.
