Stand up for community newspapers
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000.
Newspaper giants Postmedia and Torstar are swapping 32 community newspapers and then closing them all for good.
Why? To funnel advertising revenue towards their flagship daily newspapers.
This business deal will seriously hurt communities across Ottawa and other parts of Eastern, Central and Southern Ontario, as each will lose their lifeline to community news and events.
Local newspapers build and sustain the fabric of our communities -- to silence them is to silence your community and you, the local resident.
Please lend your support to this petition to the Competition Bureau of Canada, which is investigating the matter.
Let your voice be heard.
- The Competition Bureau of Canada
John Pecman, Commissioner of Competition
We, the undersigned, are asking the Competition Bureau of Canada to intervene in the newspaper swap by Postmedia and Torstar that would effectively shut down 32 community newspapers in Eastern, Central and Southern Ontario in a bid to consolidate advertising revenues.
Local newspapers build and sustain the fabric of our communities. If this deal is allowed to pass, communities across Ontario will lose their identity, cohesion and voice.
Please protect our community newspapers.
