The residents of Windsong Country Estates in Williston, ND are seeking a change in the Homeowners Association (HOA) rules that currently prohibit poultry keeping. This petition is driven by the desire to promote sustainable living practices and self-sufficiency within our community. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, small-scale poultry keeping can contribute positively towards food security and environmental sustainability. Moreover, it provides educational opportunities for children about where their food comes from. We believe that with proper regulations in place regarding coop size, cleanliness, noise control and, allow residents to keep up to 4 hens with the exclusion of roosters. Concerns about nuisance can be effectively addressed. Therefore, we urge the Windsong Country Estates HOA to reconsider its stance on this matter and allow residents to keep poultry under reasonable guidelines.
