Why this petition matters

Started by Nwaka Nnadozie

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria, has shut down its Continuous Voter Registration portal, nine months to the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, in violation of the provisions of the Electoral Act, which provides that voter registration will continue until 90 Days to elections. This early discontinuation of voter registration will disenfranchise an appreciable proportion of the electorate who have decided to register and participate in the election. At the moment, there are calls from Nigerians to INEC to continue the registration exercise so that more people will be given their constitutional opportunity to participate in the coming elections.

This petition is to compel INEC to reopen the CVR portal, and deploy all necessary resources to enable Nigerians yet to register, to do so, till the 90 Days provision stipulated the Electoral Act.
