Commute Sentence for Jimmie L Gilmer Jr H52000
Jimmie L Gilmer Jr. Is currently serving a Life Without The Possibility of Parole ( LWOP) sentence at the California State Prison - Los Angeles County in Lancaster. He is petitioning Governor Gavin Newsom to commute his sentence from Life Without the Possibility to life with the possibility which would allow him to present his case to the Board of Parole Hearings for consideration of release. Jimmie is a 54 year old son, brother, husband, and father of two adult sons and one adult daughter. Jimmie has been incarcerated for 35 years.
He is a first - time offender who was convicted at the young age of 19 for two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He is a remorseful individual who continuously strives to make amends.. Jimmie was incarcerated at the age of nineteen and could not obtain his high school diploma as he struggled in school due to dyslexia. Despite his disorder, he worked hard and ultimately earned his GED.
With the high cost of textbooks being a deterrent for others to attend classes, Jimmie and a fellow inmate developed a textbook library. Once a student completed their course, they donated their book so the next student could use it, and so on.
As a student Jimmie obtained three Associate of Arts Degree's while also working as a tutor and mentor for fellow inmates.
Through his decades of incarceration, Jimmie has remained free of all violence and has never received any behavioral disciplinary actions. He has demonstrated a long-term commitment to his process of rehabilitation through participating daily in numerous programs, some of which he helped create. When he noticed a need for innovation, he submitted a written request to develop new programs for inmates seeking to rehabilitate themselves. Ultimately, permission was granted, and the Re - Connect Program was created. Jimmie has worked hard to aid and assist in multiple fundraiser's often giving his wages and time to organize and raise funds for many nonprofit charities.
On May 22nd, 2021, Jimmie and twenty-four others marched through the yard at Califonia State Prison Los Angeles County where he earned his Bachelor's Degree Cum Laude in Organizational Communication through the partnership with Cal State L.A. . This program was the first of it's kind at any State Prison.
Jimmie is now an active member of the Paws For Life K9 Rescue, where he trains dogs with basic commands, behavioral obedience, and socialization. Many of these dogs continue to become service dogs for military veterans diagnosed with PTSD.
As personally stated by the current Warden who has known Jimmie since 1994, R.C. Johnson "Jimmie as shown true rehabilitation in my eyes and is deserving of a second chance at life". When the need for support arises, Jimmie is the first to act, as he initiated a fundraiser for the recently slain correctional officer Ericka England and her four - grand children. Ms England was a well - known asset to the California State Prison in Los Angeles County in Lancaster. Jimmie donated money to assist her daughter with the funeral expenses and purchased flowers for the service.
Jimmie has the support of his wife of thirty years and guaranteed job opportunities upon his release, which makes him a perfect candidate for a commutation.
Please help by signing this petition to help reunite him back into society with his family.
