Why this petition matters

Started by Brittany R

Love hanging out at the sandbar with your friends and neighbors?  Let's keep it that way!  The Lake Conway Water and Navigation Control District Advisory Board is developing a proposal to request the implementation of new restrictions at the sandbar and potentially limit usage.  Your signature on this petition simply states that:

We, residents and stakeholders of the Conway Chain of Lakes community, do not agree with the Lake Conway Water and Navigation Control District Advisory Board's development of a proposal that could contain new restrictions and limitations, as presented by Mr. John Evertsen and noted in the minutes of the June 14, 2022 meeting.  We ask that a deeper explanation of the catalyst behind the proposal be shared, community stakeholder meetings occur, and ample opportunity be given for any potential proposal to reflect the beliefs and needs of the larger community versus those of an individual or small group, prior to being sent to any other approving body.

This is step one to ensuring that our sandbar access does not become restricted without making our voices heard.

Below are notes about the topic from the minutes of the June 14, 2022 Lake Conway Water and Navigation Control District Advisory Board meeting.

Mr. Evertsen requested to present an idea of creating a boat and human exclusion zone (Proposal) in the location of the “Sand bar” on the east side of the middle lobe of Lake Conway. The Proposal also includes designated no wake travel lanes adjacent to the shoreline along portions of the Chain:
Sand Bar Designated Areas and Travels Lanes:
• In effect from May 1 to October 1; Fridays 3pm till sunrise, Monday morning and Holidays (with the exception of kayak and paddleboard lanes).
• Boat human exclusion zone will provide for protection of the environment from overuse and destruction of lake substrate and vegetation.
• Area will be created to provide a safer environment for the Lake Conway stakeholders on days with heavy participation. Travel lanes and designated areas will provide easier access for participants, first responders and residents that live along the shoreline. Boat mooring area will be for dedicated mooring area for all watercraft.
• Travel lanes are no wake.
