I watched my husband suffer in pain for the last week of his life as he starved to death, while having drug induced delusions while begging for Hospice to end it, while losing his battle with lung cancer.

He had to suffer the indignity of having to wear a diaper.  He was unable to communicate because of the morphine and other drugs that were administered to help ease his pain (he emitted awful sounds of suffering pain) the morphine did not stop his pain.  I was on "death watch" for 6 days before he finally crossed over.

The images of him becoming skeletal and the white cloudy muck coating his eyes are forever burned into my mind.  No human being should have to suffer as their organs in their body shuts down from no food or water, he lasted 6 full days.  We don't allow animals to suffer like this, but a human being (who has the ability to think, feel and process they are dying) that has no chance of recovery and death is inevitable...should be allowed a quick painless kindness of ending it.

A person who has a terminal illness should be able to make this decision, without penalties from the insurance companies.  This should be accomplished without having to fill out endless paperwork and jumping through bureaucratic red tape.
