Designate an off-leash dog park in Howard Beach, NY 11414
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
Our goal is to support the designation of a much needed off-leash dog park where well-behaved canine citizens can exercise in a clean, safe environment without endangering or annoying people, property or wildlife.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who respectfully request our leaders to act now to provide an off-leash dog park for the residents of Community Board 10 with our primary location preference being Field 3 at Frank M. Charles Memorial Park in Howard Beach, NY 11414.
We ask that immediate attention is given to our request for the following reasons:
*There is not a current dog park in our area to accommodate safe, off-leash dog activities
*It would allow families to spend more quality time together
*The above mentioned location would promote better use of this land area and deter crime with the frequent presence of people and their dogs
*It would reduce the recently increasing angst between dog owners, non-owners, police and park authorities
*It would increase opportunities for residents to interact with their neighbors and help create a sense of community
*Dogs need a great amount of exercise, many dog owners do not have a yard to accommodate this need, and leashes greatly limit the dog's ability to run
*Socializing dogs is very beneficial to the community since it makes them less anxious and aggressive, which helps to prevent barking and mischievous behavior
*Regular exercise is great for any dog's longevity and weight control
*Dog parks increase the livability of a neighborhood and provide for a better sense or community, therefore helping to increase property values
Field 3 at Frank M. Charles Memorial Park in Howard Beach, NY 11414 is an ideal site for several reasons, which include the following:
*A fence and water fountain are already in place, therefore saving money on the installation of each at a park created elsewhere
*The Parks Department already provide minor maintenance, which would be an otherwise extra expense
*While the grounds are upheld somewhat, it is not done so to a standard suitable for baseball forcing oraganized games to be scheduled in Fields 1 & 2, leaving Field 3 unused
Residents and their pets have "adopted" Field 3 as an area to socialize and exercise. We enjoy the community feel it's created not only among our group, but also with other park goers as it's a centralized location with beautiful views and plenty to do. Parents enjoy the benefit of giving the dogs play time while their children practice soccer in the neighboring field. It's become a daily part of our social life, and to some it's all they have. Residents take care of the space like it's their own, are responsible pet owners and respectable citizens. To date, there have been no reported problems.
PLEASE HELP US TO CREATE A DEDICATED SPACE THAT ALLOWS OUR RESIDENTS TO EXERCISE THEIR CANINE COMPANIONS AND THEMSELVES AS WELL AS BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE.
