There is still an urgent need for International Women’s Day to be marked on 8th March, because the original aim of gender equality has not been realised.

There is still a gender gap in many professions (women get paid less than men for doing the same work), girls and women are still victims of violence, they fall behind men when it comes to education and healthcare, too.

In 2021, we need International Women’s Day all the more because of the blow that the COVID-19 pandemic dealt. It set gender equality back by 25 years! You won’t have to look far for evidence.

Right from job losses and pay cuts, to a rise in domestic violence and managing the pressures of running a household without support from other members. These are just some of the many challenges women continue to face.
