The reasons are more than obvious now. Read an excerpt about the origin of the SARS virus in 2003 from WHO's website -  https://www.who.int/ith/diseases/sars/en/

SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV) – virus identified in 2003. SARS-CoV is thought to be an animal virus from an as-yet-uncertain animal reservoir, perhaps bats, that spread to other animals (civet cats) and first infected humans in the Guangdong province of southern China in 2002.

Now in December 2019, the origin of the new COVID19 virus is well established - the live animal markets of Wuhan, China.

Under these circumstances, is it sensible to allow China to reopen its live animal markets in Wuhan and other places in China ? The majority of the people in China do not eat wildlife animals. Those people who consume these wildlife animals are the rich and the powerful — a small minority.
