Nicky's Law: An Act to Protect Individuals with Disabilities from Abuse

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,500!

There is currently no Massachusetts legislation in place to protect people with disabilities from caretakers who have committed incidents of abuse but who have not been criminally charged or convicted. Nicky's Law is an act that would create a mandatory abuse registry with the names of staff persons who have demonstrated abuse while working with vulnerable populations. The purpose of this petition is to show support for the passing of this law.

We are two undergraduate UMass Amherst students working on a disability rights political organizing capstone project. Our deep-rooted passion for social justice, as well as our civic engagement with people with disabilities in the community, has brought our attention to this vital piece of legislation. We believe the passing of this bill would not only affect us and the families we work with personally; it would also serve as a huge win for disability rights at large.
