Immediate resurfacing of Thiruvanmiyur Beachfront Road, made dangerous by floods & cyclone

Thiruvanmiyur Beach has taken a huge beating over the last two Decembers, with devastating floods, then Cyclone Vardha.

The New Beach Road Residents Association and a private company Rialto Enterprises rose to the occasion both years.

- In 2015-16 to help drain the flooding and later, to take the initiative to lay water harvesting channels.

- In 2016-17 to clear the number of broken old trees, replant dozens of new ones and repair street light masts. All this without any let-up in the daily cleaning, monthly deep cleaning and regular greening of the neighbourhood.

But the resurfacing of the beachfront road can only be done by the Corporation of Chennai. It is broken, uneven and riddled with holes and debris from hurried repairs and construction. All these pose a great danger to walkers, especially seniors, and to bikers. We have made repeated requests to the GCC but to no avail. Please take this up urgently before the summer when crowds hit the beach.

The area was recognised in 2016 by the PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE as one of the six most 'Swacch', best maintained neighbourhoods in the country.

Please act now to save and protect that reputation!
