Hold Inclusive Presidential Debates in 2016
This petition had 1,789 supporters
In order to have a representative government it is essential that we have debates that inform the public on the positions of our politicians. With the upsurge in political awareness, the demand to be informed about candidates for public office has never been greater, and the presidential debates have never been more important. We should have debates that include all our candidates but, third party candidates have been excluded by the majority of the previous presidential debates.
By excluding presidential candidates from the debates, citizens are denied the opportunity to hear the varying perspectives and opinions of the possible leaders who may best represent their personal beliefs and better address their needs. It is important to be as informed as possible to decide who to vote for, but it’s impossible to make an informed decision when some positions aren't made available because candidates were never given a chance to speak.
So please sign this petition to broaden the spectrum of debate. Ask the Commission on Presidential Debates to include the Libertarian and Green party candidates, Gary Johnson and Jill Stein in the 2016 general election debates.
