Why this petition matters

Started by Theresa Dimaano

The Supreme Court of the Philippines on Sunday, May 26, 2019, in an extraordinary twist of irony during the National Heritage Month, reinstated a statement they made in October 2018 in regards to ruling Filipino and Panitikan (Literature) as non-core subjects in college, implying they will be no longer needed for college students. Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin was warned by a group of Filipino and Panitikan supporters of the dire repercussions should the Supreme Court hold to its decision affirming the removal of Filipino and Panitikan as primary subjects from the college curriculum.

In building the moral consciousness of young Filipino learners with as much critical thought and social dedication to their country and its sovereign growth and its brighter future, the Filipino subject is a critically important subject. The removal of the Filipino subject will further lead to the mentality of the Filipino people becoming more colonized and will destroy regional cultures and violate the constitution. This may be the start of the end of the Filipino Language, so let us all unite to help preserve our nationality and heritage.
