TELL BERNALILLO COUNTY TO QUIT RAISING TAXES ON HARD WORKING CITIZENS!

The Bernalillo County Commission will consider raising gross receipts taxes at the March 28, 2017 meeting. At the recent commission meeting, the vote was 3-2 to place this on the agenda for the next meeting, with O' Malley, Quezada and Hart Stebbins voting for, and Johnson and Talbert voting against.  This will be the second time the commission has raised taxes without voter approval since 2015.  The new tax, which amounts to $0.19 on every $100.00 will raise around $10 million, in addition another 1/8th percent increase which will raise another $20 million. The commission does not need voter approval to do this, but a simply majority vote of the commission. Bernalillo County has failed to get their spending under control, instead it opts to raise taxes. Bernalillo Counties' general fund which peaked in 2012 at $207 million was down to $131 million last year.  The county continues to to mismanage it's finances, losing $17 million in it's investment portfolio several years ago. It spends millions on the jail, purchases property for above market values and funds other programs such as non-profit organizations that pay their directors exorbitant salaries   Please sign this petition and tell the County Commission NO on a tax increase!
