On 23rd April the new Aubin Grove Train Station will be opening and prior to this date, Cockburn Council will be introducing 2 and 4 hour parking restrictions between Monday - Friday for many streets within the vicinity of the new Train Station. Whilst the aim is to remove train users from parking all day in "free parking" on residential streets, this has a major impact on the residents that reside in the zones where the parking restrictions apply. Alot of homes on the East side of the train station (Atwell) are cottage homes, town houses and units meaning they have no option but to use the bays directly outside of their homes for visitors, from time to time friends that may stay over, stay at home mum's or retirees that don't work during the week and have people over during the day in excess of a few hours. These homes don't have verges or driveways so residents often use the bays outside of their homes. Buying property in the southern suburbs of Perth, most people safely assumed that parking restrictions would never be something we would have to worry about until receiving the letter a week or so ago from Cockburn Council advising of the restrictions they are going to put in place for parking. Alot of original home owners that purchased from the developer were actually informed that the "parking bays out the front of our homes were for visitors" and that a parking bay per home had be allocated as part of the building plan.
We are urging Cockburn Council to consider the residents / ratepayers these parking restrictions impact and issue out 2 parking permits per home to exempt the vehicles that display the permits in their windscreens from the restrictions.
Other Councils have issued similiar permits and so the residents are confused and disappointed that Cockburn Council are not doing the same.
Cockburn Council, please consider and give some thought to your residents of the community that these parking restrictions apply to and remove the inconvenience of have restrictive parking for them and their visitors.
