Megan G started this petition to Colwood City Council and

The city of Colwood’s planning department is refusing Alphabet Zoo, a wonderful daycare to open in their municipality.

Alphabet Zoo has been operating in Langford BC, on Sooke Road for numerous years, providing phenomenal care to children. Their lease in up March 2021, to continue with their providing care to children the owner Marianne bought a house at 3322 Fulton road. Daycare is so hard to find and vastly needed out in the Westshore, which is the Islands fastest growing community.

Marianne and her staff have been working tirelessly to get the house up to regulation and to the planning councils ok, unfortunately the planning council has been continuously throwing roadblocks in the way and now the opening date of April 1/2021 is at risk.

The Council has put a stop work order on a few tree removals that hydro had asked to be taken down.
Council doesn’t like that the property in question is a pan handle lot and want them to hook up to sewer instead of a new septic tank. The sewer connection is roughly 10 houses away, doing this will be $130,000 on top of already high renovation costs. Please Colwood Council, allow Alphabet Zoo Daycare to open without having to connect to sewer. This could be done at a later date once the sewer main is brought up the street.

This is putting a ton of stress on all the parents let alone kids and staff of Alphabet Zoo. How are we to find new daycare for all of our kids in less then 2 months, when all daycare in the Westshore have waiting lists and are near impossible to find full time care.

The City of Colwood should be embracing daycares opening up, not making it near impossible to do, they’re so needed.

Please sign this petition to bring awareness that we need this daycare (and more) to open.  Kids and residents of the Westshore need them to survive.
