We are wanting to keep the Colstrip High School indoor pool open for the community and schools.

The CHS pool is an invaluable resource for our community and has given 1000’s of children past and present the ability to learn how to swim. It will bless families for years to come by giving our future generations a pool to swim in. Our community is blessed with a clean, safe, and wonderful facility that is open and free to the public. The school system uses this pool to reward elementary students for working hard in the classroom, the high school athletes use it to to help injured students rehabilitate, and the community education program uses it to offer adult and children’s swim lessons for members of our community. 

Having a warm pool to swim in during the winter months is a luxury that very few Montanans get to experience. We take our children to this pool to expose them to swimming and the water when they are babies and small children, we teach them how to swim as they grow, and they learn about being safe near water. This pool hosts birthday parties for children with winter birthdays. Families spend time together doing something that is fun, great exercise, and a valuable life skill. Adults in the community are able to swim laps and do wet vest/soggy jogging as exercise. Everyone wins when they have access to such a wonderful pool.

According to safekids.org every year almost 800 children drown in the US. Of those 800 MORE THAN HALF are under age 5. “Among preventable injuries, drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1-4, the second leading vise of death in children 5-14, and the third leading cause of death in children under 1 and older teens ages 15-17.”

That alone is worth keeping the pool. One child saved in our community is worth keeping the pool. If we can continue to give children in our community the ability to learn the life saving skill of swimming we can give them the tools to be able to safely enjoy the water. We can save their life or the life of someone they know because we are giving them the opportunity to learn to swim and practice their skills.
