In April 2018, the Trump administration announced the “zero tolerance” policy for illegal immigration. This policy stated all immigrants, including those seeking asylum, would be detained and criminally prosecuted when attempting to cross the U.S. border illegally. This approach led to the systematic separation of immigrant children who accompanied adults migrating to the U.S. illegally. Thousands of children have since been placed in immigration detention centers indefinitely, being subjected to neglect, abuse, emotional distress, and psychological trauma.

The separation of children from their families is cruel and callous, but keeping innocent children in cages is far worse and inhumane. How can the passage of PROKID Act. help?

On February 23, 2021, (PROKID) Act was introduced in congress. This bill would launch a permanent Office of the Ombudsperson within the Department of Health and Human Services to advocate and ensure the rights and safety of all children in custody. This bill would enforce transparency, safety, protection, and accountability for all immigrant children in any kind of government care. After the bill was introduced in House, it was referred to the Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship by the Committee on the Judiciary on April 28, 2021, where it currently sits today. The future and safety of these children currently sits in the hands of the members of the Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship, including Congressman KEN BUCK.

U.S. Rep. Ken Buck, has previously condemned the conditions of detention centers in the past stating, “As a person, it pains me to see individuals in this kind of crowded condition.” 

We call for Colorado U.S. Rep. Ken Buck, to do something about this, and support the passage of PROKID Act. and advocate for least restrictive settings and the safety of all immigrant children! What kind of monsters support putting kids in cages?
