Public awareness for food safety for Beef

The citizens who buy beef at the grocery store are mistaken about where their beef comes from.  The label that states USDA leads them to believe the Beef is actually a product of the USA, when in reality it is not.   In May 23, 2013, AMS issued a final rule to amend the country of origin labeling provisions for muscle cut covered commodities (78 FR 31367). The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2016 (Pub. L. 114-113) amended the Act to remove mandatory COOL requirements for muscle cut beef and pork, and ground beef and pork.  If you look closely at the beef marked USDA in the grocery store, you will discover it can be a product of Australia, Brazil, Mexico, or Canada, that was simply brought to the United States for Slaughter.  The USDA label does not indicate where the beef was raised. This is very alarming from a food safety standpoint.  Even more so, it what happened in Brazil.

*********************Inspectors in Brazil Bribed**********************

The recent findings of JBS in Brazil are very alarming about food safety. Sons of the JBS founder Jose Batista Sobrinho, Wesley and Joesley Batista admitted paying as much as $150 million in bribes during 25 years to Brazil’s politicians, but through leniency agreements they’ve avoided prosecution and jail time by paying, through their J&F  Investimentosm, an astonishing $3.2 billion. Bribes were reportedly paid to government officials from meat inspectors to the country’s recent presidents.

Please help the citizens have a choice to pick US Beef by requiring grocery stores to display a placard stating where the beef came from. Only then, would people have a choice of buying beef born, grown, and slaughtered in the United States.
