Hannah Duggan started this petition to Colorado State Forest Service

On July 31st Meredith Latchaw was camping with her family off Meadow Creek Road north of Vail about two miles from Piney Lake. Her husband Mark and two children were with her when gusty winds blew a tree, dead from pine beetle kill, onto their campsite resulting in the death of Meredith.

Two weeks prior, I was in the Baby Doe camp ground at Turquoise Lake, when my family witnessed a tree, dead from pine beetle kill, fall in the center of the camp ground narrowly missing children and camp sites. We then realized, as the winds picked up, that we were surrounded by dead trees in our site.

I am asking the Colorado Forest Service to remove all trees that are dead from beetle kill, from any state or national camp ground. This is a real danger and has already taken one life. We love our outdoors here in Colorado and we ask that extra steps be taken for us to feel safe in our favorite spots.
