Move the ugly bench interrupting protests in front of Colorado Springs City Hall.
This petition had 29 supporters
City Hall has an ugly bench right in front of it. As far as we can tell, it serves no other purpose than to interrupt protests and rallies that regularly occur in front of City Hall.
They claim this is some sort of art project meant to bring people together. The irony is that the bench doesn't foster debate but rather opposes speech. By blocking protests and rallies it is actively doing the opposite of its stated goal.
The "art piece" also clashes aesthetically with city hall itself. The facade is Greco-Roman, whereas the bench is wooden and experimental.
Even if blocking rallies is not the intention of the object, it is the outcome. How can the Citizens of Colorado Springs exercise their first amendment rights if they're constantly being blocked by a weird bench?
This petition is to ask the City Council of Colorado Springs to please move the bench. We suggest moving it to the sidewalk or onto the grass under a tree. Thank you for signing!
