Black Students at Mines started this petition to Colorado School of Mines

  1. Reduced tuition for remote learning and loss of facilities and services which is out of our control due to COVID-19.
    • Room and board and meal plans should not be factored into cost of attendance due to risk of infection
    • Mandatory fees such as intermodal transportation fee, rec center fee, student services fee, etc. are unnecessary
  2. Increased attendance of Black students and other minorities
    • It is unacceptable and uncomfortable for students to go through an entire semester/year of courses and be the only black student in their class
    • Mines has made efforts to increase the attendance of women and minorities on campus, but visually there is only an increase in women, specifically caucasian women
  3. Investment and renovation of the Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP) and Aspen
    • Mines has invested into building new facilities without renovation and improvement of existing buildings, especially the facilities that house and act as a safe haven for minorities
  4. Hire more black professors, well-being counselors, faculty, and therapists
    • Our white counterparts have faculty who can relate to their personal lives, while the black and minority students do not
    • It is unfair to funnel all of the minorities onto only two faculty heads, the two in charge of MEP
  5. Termination of contract with Sodexo
    • Research Sodexo and their reviews show receive F ratings for food. For food quality: https://upj-advocate.com/news/2017/04/19/sodexo-receives-f-rating-for-food/
    • Oldham county concluded Sodexo food is not healthy: “They are a mass-produced food service company with great marketing. The food may sound healthy, but is heavily processed and high in carbohydrates, fat and chemicals ,” she wrote in the review
