Dear Governor Hickenlooper:

As a concerned citizen, I implore you to take immediate action and use your influence and power to help the victims of the Aurora, Colorado theater shooting.

I demand that you take steps immediately to use existing state, local, and federal funds/services to cover ALL medical costs, co-pays and mental health costs for the victims.

After the tragic Columbine shootings, former Colorado Governor Bill Owens declared the shootings a state disaster and $1 million was released from state funds.
Another payment of $750,000 came from the Justice Department, which helped with victims' compensation, including medical bills not covered by insurance, lost income and funerals. What are you waiting for?

The 7/20 victims are suffering physically and mentally from the unspeakable actions of the shooting and continue to suffer with the threat of financial ruin due to medical treatment debts.

You endorsed GivingFirst/CommunityFirst for the collection of donated funds. GivingFirst.org solicited close to $6 million using the faces and the names of the 12 murdered loved ones without permission under the guise of the Aurora Victim Relief Fund. The leadership at that 'nonprofit' told Tom Teves personally -- a grieving father who brought his son home from your state in an urn -- that if he wanted to raise money for the victims, he should start his own fund. That uncaring, disrespectful comment speaks volumes as to the intent of the nonprofit. Those donations came from corporations and the hardworking American public with the intent of helping the victims directly. The funds need to GO DIRECTLY TO THE VICTIMS.

You gave your word, stating “We will remember” 12 times on national TV during the Memorial Service held at Aurora City Hall. It is time to remember the victims. Right thought, right action. Will you be known as the Governor who led the way? Or the Governor who failed his state and his constituents during the worst massacre in U.S. history?

I demand that you take over the Aurora Victims Relief Fund and move all funds raised, to an independent arbitrator for immediate distribution DIRECTLY to the victims, and tap government resources immediately to alleviate ALL medical costs for those injured.
