Call for the Resignation of Don Coram - Colorado State Senator

Call for the Resignation of Don Coram - Colorado State Senator
The undersigned voters of Colorado Senate District 6 call for the resignation of Don Coram from the position of Colorado State Senator for District 6.
· Senator Coram considers himself to be a “Centrist” meaning he believes he is not left or right in his political views but in the middle. However, Don Coram seems to lean more left than right because he votes like a Democrat in the Colorado Senate. Mr. Coram has sponsored and voted yes on bills that no other Republicans have sponsored or voted yes on. We have enough Democrats running our state already and we need a true conservative Republican representing our district.
· Don Coram was a prime sponsor and the only Republican to sponsor the controversial Comprehensive Sex Ed Bill, HB19-1032. This bill forces all schools that provide sex education to include teaching about homosexual practices. Schools that teach about pregnancy outcomes must teach about abortion in an “unbiased manner”. The bill also states that schools cannot, “emphasize sexual abstinence as a primary acceptable preventative method” for unwanted pregnancy. Mr. Coram falsely claims that it was important for him to sponsor the bill in order to add the phrase, “Colorado does not mandate sexual health”. However, if a school provides health education, which includes sex education (and almost every school does teach health class and requires a health credit to graduate) then it must teach comprehensive sex education as defined in Mr. Coram’s bill. In addition, every curriculum company in the state has been forced to re-write their sex education curriculum to align with the Comprehensive Sex Education bill.
· Don Coram was one of only a few Senate Republicans to sponsor the police reform bill of 2020, SB20-217. This anti-law enforcement bill greatly limited law enforcement’s ability to respond to protests. In addition, local police officers and sheriff’s deputies lost qualified immunity, meaning they could be held personally liable up to $25,000 for their actions while on duty. As a result of the 2020 law by July of 2021, the State of Colorado saw significant increases in retirements and resignations as compared to the same time period one year prior. In Boulder County, 32 officers resigned, which was double the amount in previous years. Many law enforcement officers that resigned or retired were leaving law enforcement altogether or moving to red states such as Montana, Wyoming, or Missouri.
· Don Coram was a prime sponsor and one of only two Senate Republicans to sponsor the Strengthening Civics Education Bill in 2021, SB21-067. This bill is being called the CRT (Critical Race Theory) bill by its opponents. The bill requires schools to teach history with a larger emphasis on minority races, lesbian, gay, transgender, and bisexual individuals.
· Don Coram is not representing the constituents who voted for him and therefore, we no longer support Senator Coram as the representative of our district and call for him to resign from his position immediately.
