Estes Park truly is one of Colorados most precious gems. Tucked away at the base of the Rocky Mountains it is a magical place filled with natural beauty and peaceful lifestyles. This town has worked long and hard the last ten years to grow into a year round destination for tourists and local visitors alike. The full closure of highway 34 was challenging for many locals however we understood the need for unincumbered work hours. Proposing this for another year or two is unacceptable however, and will gravely damage the local economy in the Estes valley. Businesses have already noticed substantial losses, the major employers in town will lose employees who will not accept commuting out of the way anymore, the town will lose money on expensive infrastructure that it has installed to accommodate larger numbers of people, and the town will revert to an economy of 15 years past. Estes is no longer a summer destination only. We are vibrant all year long!!
The town understands the need for speedy work but at what cost? We propose openings from 7AM to 9AM and again from 6PM to 8PM as well as one or two weekends a month. This will accommodate those commuting to Estes for work, day visitors, as well as long term campers and tourists. There isn't anything CDOT can't do with 20 hours a day versus 24 hours a day. We support you, but we also support our town and its continued growth!!
