Jennifer Iversen started this petition to Colorado Department of Education

Please join our community in supporting our high school students and their families.  High school students earn mandatory credits towards graduation. When these learners fail a required course, their families often pay $300-500 per summer school class, depending on the subject. Because of the CoVid 19 Pandemic our communities are experiencing an unprecedented change in the way children access their education.  Trying to learn in a setting that comprises many obstacles may significantly increase the chances that some high school students may not pass all of their classes. These detractors include lack of direct instruction, parents who are working in and out of the home, siblings who need help, technology disruptions/inequities, and the overall stressors that State and Federal Stay at Home mandates incur. The economic impact of paying for summer school will make it a hardship for families already struggling with unemployment. We want our high school graduates to be prepared to succeed in their chosen paths of being employed, learning a trade skill, entering college or the military.

We propose that the Colorado Department of Education join forces with local School Districts to provide FREE Summer School for failed required courses during this time.
