Colonie, NY Should Recognize LGBT Pride Month!

Mark Robert started this petition to Town of Colonie and

June is LGBT Pride Month.  With a population of over 80,000 residents, Colonie is a large and diverse town, which includes thousands of LGBT citizens.  Unfortunately, every June passes by without any formal recognition by the town of LGBT Pride Month.

Pride Month is important to the LGBT community as a time to celebrate progress for equal rights as well as to highlight the work which still needs to be done.  Pride events give hope to those who face bullying at school or discrimination at work, brings joy to those who strive to live an authentic life, and most importantly, fosters pride in one’s identity.

There are many ways the Town can recognize Pride Month such as:

  • Passing a resolution;
  • Raising the Pride Flag at various locations such as Town Hall and The Crossings;
  • Sending a delegation to march in the Albany parade;
  • Showcasing LGBT history at the library;
  • Inviting LGBT speakers to a Town event.

The Town of Colonie should recognize Pride Month to show solidarity with its LGBT citizens and their allies.  Please join me in signing this petition to send a message to our town government and ask them to recognize LGBT Pride Month in June!
