Signatures opposing the repurposing of Manatee Park
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,500!
We are citizens that are opposed to the Collier County land grab to convert Manatee Park to Affordable Housing. The County should not have the ability to repurpose a park without a vote of those residents within the district the park is in.
Additionally, District 1 has more affordable housing than all the other Collier County Districts combined. Most of the areas that need workers for service are not contained within District 1. Affordable housing needs to be built closer to the businesses that need workers in order to minimize traffic congestion and associated costs with overloaded high density housing. Forcing these individuals to spend hard earned money on gas or public transporation because they are living a long distance from their work does not make sense. The Manatee school system is already overburdened with children attending classes in trailers.
We are not opposed to affordable housing in general, however the county has no articulated goals for geographic dispersion, metrics, tracking mechanisms established in the Plan. There is no means of holding the County accountable for a shared and equitable responsibility of affordable housing throughout the County as the ULI report recommends.
The inclusion of the ‘gap’ segment represents a misuse of County funds
without unambiguous statutory obligation. Additionally, the Housing Plan acknowledges there is no current deficit inhomes for this ’gap’ segment. (378/1265 projected units).
This petition is to oppose not only the repurposing of Manatee Park for affordable housing but also the misuse of county funds and county authority with regard to the proposed land trust and administrative changes. Please sign if you agree.
