Suspend face-to-face lectures at College of the Desert
Why this petition matters
As confirmed cases of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) started hitting Riverside County and with 5 cases confirmed in the Coachella valley, College of the Desert should take seriously the threat students, professors and faculty staff in general are being exposed with all the snowbirds in the Coachella Valley.
College of the Desert should considere the following actions:
* Limit Face-to-Face lectures. ( We have Canvas, let’s use it).
* Spring break is almost here, COD should consider closing campus for spring break on a earlier date to see how the virus cases develop in the Coachella valley.
* If face-to-face classes are not suspended, give the student the option to deliver all assignments online without getting marked as absent.
* COD should let students drop clases due to Coronavirus concerns without penalty or a “W” in their records.
Bigger universities have been taking steps to prevent the spreading of the COVID-19 and we should not wait until a student of faculty staff tested positive to suspend clases, because if we reach that point, the risk of more students and faculty staff getting the virus would be higher as we could have been exposed to that one student/staff.
