This petition is regarding the change of the bus times of Coleg Cambria as they are making us stay an extra hour with no extra classes planned but instead is used as a “study period”. Firstly, not only have did we have no word from the college about this matter until confronted of the issue but instead had to learn from our friends and through looking for the bus timetables for this information. This has caused a big uproar of upset from many pupils, and instead of being happy with our last week of summer ready to come back to college, we are all now anxious. The reason for this being is, many of us have outside commitments from the college. In a lot of people’s cases they have extra curriculum activities in order to give them a break and keep them fit and healthy. Other people have commitments such as work to earn money, looking after family members who cannot look after themselves and out of school commitments such as volunteering. This has proven to be an issue with the new bus times, especially of those who don’t drive and live further from the college as many people start these commitments at 5 and the journey from the college can take over an hour. Before the change, Many of us already had to keep to a strict schedule of balancing out outside lives and our college life as both are equally important to us as we need the grades but our extra curriculum is what is guiding us to future work paths. With this extra hour added on many of us will have to drop our outside commitments and therefore will miss out on a lot due to this one change. I understand that our lessons will finish at the 4pm mark as they usually do and therefore will have an hour to wait which I could be using more wisely as many find it hard to concentrate in the college environment and We are more likely to get my work done at a better standard if In a quiet environment. We call for the buses to collect us at the normal time, and we ask you sign this petition to support us. The college claims our social and outside college life is important but a lot of us will loose this with the change of the bus times. We have tried to reach out to our teachers and the head of departments to try come up with solutions but we have been given no guidance or solution and we begin this Monday! The college day for us will now be from 9am til 5pm with many of us leaving our houses at 7 and not getting home until 6pm and later!
