Great Bay Community College is home to students of all cultural backgrounds and ages as well as a place where people gather for lunch, the gym, and other recreational reasons. New Hampshire’s rural context, high prescription rates, and lack of treatment funding are a few factors that contribute to our state’s growing opioid epidemic. The Granite State still remains at number 2 in the nation for opioid-related deaths.
There cannot be enough devices to help in the fight against this epidemic. GBCC’s vision emphasizes, “student learning and support, and nurture an innovative spirit to be a leading academic institution in New England.” Therefore, it is important for Great Bay to provide a safe and welcoming place. Narcan available on campus would be another safety net. Like knowing CPR or wearing a seatbelt, you do not want to imagine having to use this tool, but Narcan is useful and life saving. Maya Angelou once said, “Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst, and unsurprised by anything in-between.”
