Samantha Mayer started this petition to Colfax High School

This years yearbook will not be the same type of yearbook we’re used to. It will be a small book meant for just sports, clubs, and student ID pictures. The rest will be a video.

The main issue with this is the keepsake factor. We want a yearbook we can open up years down the line and think back on our many great high school memories. How will we keep the video?

The school has not yet decided how they will distribute the video. With the huge technological advances in society, will we even be able to play this video down the road? Many family doesn’t own DVD players anymore, and flash drives are becoming less and less popular. Will these methods of distribution even be around in five to ten years?

And who’s to say a “tech savvy” student won’t just make copies of the video and distribute them to fellow students? It wouldn’t be difficult, and it would prevent the school from profiting off of yearbook sales.

These are major factors to consider when making this decision. It is of great and valid importance for Colfax students (especially current seniors) that this years yearbook remain the same format as previous years. Why change the way it is?

There is no point in changing something that just about every single other school does one way. If the issue is the need for a yearbook club/committee to assemble the normal yearbook, many students have expressed their desire to help. However, they will ONLY help if the yearbook remains the same as last years.

The whole point of a yearbook is to document memories in a physical form. It would be of great disappointment to the students of Colfax High School to continue with this years yearbook plan. So please, listen to your students and change the yearbook back to the way it was, the way it’s supposed to be. Please don’t let the students of Colfax down.

Sincerely, the students of Colfax High School.
