The supermarkets here in Australia claim to care about the environment but they continue to sell 15c bags that most people purchase and then use for the throwing away of household rubbish. There are so many boxes on the shelf of these supermarkets that can be used to hold groceries for those who can then re use these boxes to place recycling in and discard on behalf of the supermarkets. This would save the supermarkets money as the staff can collect the empty boxes and place them at the front of store instead of loading dock. These boxes can also be re used at home for carrying other recyclables. The truth is that the population is growing and we need to be aware of our environmental footprint. The more plastic we use and the more we consume, the more cleaning up the future generations will need to endure. We ask supermarkets to be more conscious of their impact on the environment and enact strategies that can help consumers to take less plastic waste home, this includes the fruit bags that people sometimes place ONE piece of fruit into when instead they can put this in a trolley and wash it at home. These businesses have an ethical obligation to their customers to provide these options. If you next shop at a supermarket, please look for an empty box on the shelf ( many in soft drink and chips aisle) and place your groceries in there and then mention it to the manager or via this link. We must stop the complacency and take responsibility for our environmental footprint. Yes we do live busy lives but this is no excuse for damaging the environment for the future generations. ALDI and Harris farm have been doing this since the beginning of time with no complaints. Why are Woolworths and Coles delaying this? I spoke to Waterloo Coles on four occasions in the past ten months and I am launching this petition because I was not listened too. I spoke to the area manager about this issue and asked them to place it in the empty corner near self serve checkout. They said they would. I went back one week later and saw a stand of "H20" water bottles instead. Thank you Coles for "caring".
