My child has been on the SEN spectrum for about 2 years now. I started the process however over 6 years ago. My child has been diagnosed with ADHD and it effects her life and her family on  a daily basis. Simple things aren't simple. 

I had to apply through the NHS for a diagnosis for my child as the school refused to help. She has major difficulty in school from her education and social Interactions including behaviours. She is currently on a one plan, which is something I call a tick box exercise for the school because they write targets but never follow through. There is generally 1 teacher and 1 LSA in each classroom sometimes 2 LSA's but very rare. The percentage of children now on the SEN spectrum is growing rapidly and yet the education and curriculum stay the same!! Why?? I would say its roughly at the moment 5% of every class that is now on the SEN spectrum which is too much for a teacher to handle. The SEN tutors are usually part time, with around 2 of them in primary and junior and maybe a couple more In secondary school. They do not have enough time to tutor them all on their specific needs. You can apply for an EHCP but the SEN tutor should be applying for you. It shouldn't be impossible to get as it means extra money for the school for extra resources for each individual! I personally got told by one of the SEN tutors at my child's school that they are so happy they don't have to deal with the paperwork anymore! They refused to help me in anyway. Even the teacher has asked about the school looking into an EHCP for my child has it could help him a great deal. The first thing I was told whether your child is applicable or not for an EHCP it will still be denied! This enrages me! My child and so so many other children and teenagers are not getting the education they deserve because they cannot get the support they deserve! Which I find despicable! Because my child suffers so much like many others as well its causing major anxiety extreme lateness and is having a major negative impact on their education ànd thats NOT ok. An EHCP should be more accessible for all children and teenagers on the SEN spectrum so they can receive the complete support in their education they deserve as much as everybody else! A one plan does nothing because the tutors don't have the time or resource to do their job to the best of their abilities. So an EHCP needs to be more accessible for schools and for parents to apply on behalf of their children.
