Cancel End Semester Examinations in COEP

On 8th May 2020, Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra announced that exams would be conducted for final year students only.

We are yet to receive any official response from COEP, but certain emails proposing online examinations have stirred up anxiety among several students exacerbating the already grim and unexpected situation we are in.

Online examinations come with several challenges. First of all, not every student has uninterrupted internet connection where they live. To get each and every student attend the exam online is quite a task. On top of it connectivity issues during exams might directly hamper grades of students. Secondly, with this sudden divergence from academic activities it becomes challenging for students to keep up with the demands and assignments of faculty members.

Keeping the end semester exams after we resume and delaying the next semester again seems infeasible. We understand that exams are a good reflection of the skills student learns during the semester, but in an extraordinary situation such as this it is important to consider the opinion of students most of whom(including final years) want exams to be cancelled and promote them on the basis of guidelines prepared by UGC and also recommended by the Govt. Of Maharashtra.

We the students of COEP hope that you take a look at our concerns and let's start the next semester once we return with great zeal and enthusiasm!
