Our bodies are not distractions and should not be viewed as such. Coastal Academy High School currently does not allow crop tops of any length, or tank tops with straps smaller than the width of 2 fingers. I believe allowing crop tops (atleast to mid stomach) and “spaghetti strap” tank tops is reasonable. Considering temperatures on campus can reach upward of 85 degrees on a hot day. And many students have to complete athletic activities on campus. Several female students have been sent home during a school day due to their outfit being deemed “inappropriate.” These students now having to miss classes, clubs, after school activities, and office hours. I understand the need to provide a space where every student, staff, and parent feels comfortable. Which is why it is so important for Coastal Academy to be a place where students of all genders and bodies have equal opportunities to learn.
