Make School Administration Hold Racist Students Accountable
Make School Administration Hold Racist Students Accountable
Over the years, many students have gotten away with being extremely racist and making other students feel harmed. Our schools have been contacted many times but seem to turn a blind eye. We, the student body, demand that students are held accountable with an appropriate punishment. These students need to be held accountable in every aspect.
Every day, these students make our BIPOC students feel unsafe and unwelcome. As a school, it should be seen as a safe place and not somewhere where students are scared to be.
Our most recent incident involves Lilian Salzman, who wrote a black racial slur close to 200 times. She then proceeded to post it to her Snapchat and caption it with, "Now that's art." When asked by her peers to apologize, she changes her bio on her Instagram to, "Don't be a snowflake."
Many students throw around the word on a daily basis, making others feel unsafe and extremely disrespected. Our schools follow DASA, the Dignity For All Students Act. This states that no student is allowed to be discriminated against for, "Race, Sex, Color, Gender, Weight, Sexual Orientation, National origin, Disability, Ethnic group, Religion/Religious practice." We have reported many incidents but they have not been followed through with. We demand action now.
