CNN's mistake was "Something Else"

CNN's mistake was "Something Else"
Why this petition matters

On election night (11/3/20), while showing an exit-poll graphic, CNN referred to voters who were not white, Latinx, Asian, or Black as "Something Else". Understandably, Native Americans and allies across Indian Country are angered, offended, humored, and disappointed.
Our nation's original peoples deserve a statement of apology from CNN and a segment discussing Native voter impact. As said in a statement Thursday by the Native American Journalists Association, "To refer to Indigenous voters as 'something else' fails to recognize the sovereignty and political classification of Native voters."
Native American voters responded to this election with record turnout in key states, even after many tribes held their own elections this political season for tribal councils. It's vital we recognize their power as a voting population, and their rights of dignity to be identified using language that does not perpetuate erasure.
This petition asks 2 Things:
1. for CNN to accept accountability for this atrocity and for the ways they currently and have formally viewed Native Americans, in a publicly-released statement;
2. for CNN to educate themselves and the general American public with a segment about Native American voter impact (and please, hire Native producers to tell this story)
It's imperative that non-Native aspiring allies hold agencies accountable for discrimination against Native Americans. I'm not Native, but I don't have to be Native American to see this is an issue and to organize for change, and neither do you! Sign this petition!
