Raise Awareness About Workplace Discrimination

Raise Awareness About Workplace Discrimination
We are all human beings sharing the same ultimate goal: to be happy. Another thing we have in common is our difference. We come from diverse places and we have our own individuality. We all have different values and beliefs, and ways to see life. However, each one of us aspires to the same thing, even if we are different.
That difference, no matter what aspect it takes, should not be a reason to be treated differently. We all know about racism and its negative impacts on people of colour (poc). It is a type of discrimination that is constant for the victims, it follows them everywhere. Even in the workplace! Did you know that "employers are about 60% more likely to interview a job applicant with a Francophone-sounding name in Quebec, despite similar education, experience and skills."? (Government of Canada) This is scary! The worst part is that is only the tip of the iceberg.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of unethical treatments poc experience regularly at their workplace:
- Racist joke/comments/prejudices
- Mispronounced family names
- Excessive task assignments
- Passive-aggressive comments
- More unlikely to get promoted
- More severe reprimands
Our goal is to raise awareness about the injustice and better situations in Québec's workplaces. We would like the CNESST to start an awareness and promotion campaign about racial discrimination in the workplace.
