Jeanette Torres started this petition to Cloudflare Inc. and

Cloudflare moves from reCaptcha to hCaptcha a few months ago. However, this decision has been contested since Day 0, as Cloudflare blatantly downgraded user experience from Free users to Enterprises.

In short, hCaptcha brings legtimate users as well as bots into an equal fight, where much more normal users have to take time to solve a low-quality two-pass image captcha while at the same time, do free labors to the company. As already known, a major part of casual visitors would gone if they have to spend much more time resolving captchas rather than viewing content. Take myself as an example. Now I have to make 8 more clicks and read 18 more images in order to check my data usage online. This is way too much work.

In addition to that, the hCaptcha itself is hella flawed. You can bypass the captcha completely (automatically, yes) with a one-time email and a few clicks. With this setup, the captcha becomes nothing to bots. Not to mention that hCaptcha recently supports Privacy Pass and is ignoring Cloudflare settings on Cloudflare sites, that opens another gate for bots. Of course, they are not very well-known, so random regular guys still have to solve the 18 images, no matter how its reputation is.

After all, as it's us that control our domain and Cloudflare only show things on it, we should have the right to choose between these providers and if required, provide our own credentials or pay for it. I sincerely request Cloudflare to bring back reCAPTCHA at least as an option to ease our visitors and back site owners.
